‎Siyanda Bani stepped out in a powder-blue tiered dress that puts a fresh spin on a familiar feminine shape. The dress has a fitted bodice with a sweetheart neckline and halter straps, along with a narrow cut-out at the waist. From there, the skirt opens into several gathered tiers, creating a full midi-length shape.

The powder-blue colour gives the dress a soft look, while the construction keeps the outfit structured. The textured fabric is visible across the bodice and skirt, adding interest to the otherwise plain colour. The fitted waist also creates a clear contrast with the fuller skirt, making the tiered construction the defining feature of the outfit.

Bani paired the dress with gold accessories, keeping the rest of the look focused on warm metallic details. She carried a small rounded gold clutch and wore pointed-toe gold heels with slim ankle straps. The shoes extend the metallic detail down to the feet without introducing another colour into the outfit.

Her jewellery included gold earrings, a delicate necklace, bracelets, rings and a chunky gold-toned watch. She also added oversized sunglasses with amber-tinted lenses, giving the daytime outfit a stronger finish.

For beauty, Bani wore her long black hair straight and loose, with a neat centre part. Her makeup included defined eyes, glossy nude-toned lips and a warm complexion. The simple beauty look allowed the dress, sunglasses and gold accessories to remain the main focus.

The look also fits with Bani’s history of wearing feminine shapes and soft colours. She has previously worn a pastel-pink tulle dress, showing an earlier take on the voluminous dress trend. This time, she takes the same interest in volume in a different direction, using a powder-blue colour, a fitted waist and layered tiers to give the classic dress shape a more structured look.

Tyla opted for a grey-blue snakeskin outfit by Mowalola for the 2026 VMAs, wearing a matching bra top and midi skirt that put the print and cut of the two-piece at the centre of her look.

The outfit paired an underwired bra top with thin shoulder straps and a fitted, low-rise midi skirt. The fabric featured a snakeskin pattern in shades of grey, black and blue. The top had shaped cups and a narrow centre fastening, while the skirt sat low on her hips and fell below her knees.

A matching teal choker completed the look, while small stud earrings kept the jewellery simple. She also wore a turquoise accessory around her ankle and pointed heels with a black-and-white pattern. Her long, straight black hair was styled with cornrows across the front, which continued into loose lengths down her back.

Her makeup included bronzed skin, defined brows, smoky eyeshadow and glossy nude lips. Pink nails added another colour detail to the look.

The Mowalola outfit fits Tyla’s preference for body-conscious designs and unconventional styling on major red carpets. At the 2024 Met Gala, she wore a custom Balmain gown made with sand and crystal details, while her 2025 VMAs look drew on an archival Chanel design. Her latest appearance takes a different approach, using snakeskin print, a lingerie-inspired top and a low-rise skirt to bring another distinctive look to the VMAs.

Bonang Matheba Didn’t Miss in Beaded Fringe Gown

Bonang Matheba brought a distinctly Nigerian fashion touch to the L’Oréal Paris Ultimate Makeup Masterclass in Johannesburg on 19 September, where she served as MC. Held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the event brought together beauty personalities including actress Ama Qamata and international makeup artist Harold James.

For the occasion, Bonang wore a custom gown created by Nigerian fashion brand Emagine by Bukola, from a concept by stylist and designer Makililo Nelson A. The burnt-orange dress was covered in detailed beadwork in red, green, gold and darker tones, with swirling motifs running across the halter-neck bodice. A small cutout sat below the bust, while a pointed orange panel defined the waist.

The skirt was where the design became particularly distinctive. Long orange strands of fringe fell from the waist and continued down the floor-length skirt, mixed with rows of multicoloured beads in earthy shades. Makililo said the design was developed with Bonang’s role as host in mind, with movement considered as part of the concept. His inspiration included African earth tones, traditional handcrafted details and paisley-inspired motifs.

Bonang kept her accessories in the same colour family. She carried a small beaded clutch decorated with orange fringe and floral details, while gold strappy heels were visible beneath the gown. Gold earrings and a slim bracelet added jewellery without introducing another strong colour.

Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, with the length falling down her back. The makeup featured defined brows, black winged liner, full lashes and a nude lip, keeping the beauty look relatively simple against the detailed gown.

The look also fits Bonang’s established relationship with Nigerian designers. At the 2024 Miss South Africa finale, she wore five looks created by Nigeria-based designers, including Veekee James, SOMO, Sheye Oladejo, Mazelle Bridal and Emagine by Bukola. Her latest Emagine by Bukola gown continues that connection, this time pairing the couture finish she often brings to major hosting appearances with layers of orange fringe and intricate African-inspired beadwork.
