Bonang Matheba brought a distinctly Nigerian fashion touch to the L’Oréal Paris Ultimate Makeup Masterclass in Johannesburg on 19 September, where she served as MC. Held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the event brought together beauty personalities including actress Ama Qamata and international makeup artist Harold James.

For the occasion, Bonang wore a custom gown created by Nigerian fashion brand Emagine by Bukola, from a concept by stylist and designer Makililo Nelson A. The burnt-orange dress was covered in detailed beadwork in red, green, gold and darker tones, with swirling motifs running across the halter-neck bodice. A small cutout sat below the bust, while a pointed orange panel defined the waist.

The skirt was where the design became particularly distinctive. Long orange strands of fringe fell from the waist and continued down the floor-length skirt, mixed with rows of multicoloured beads in earthy shades. Makililo said the design was developed with Bonang’s role as host in mind, with movement considered as part of the concept. His inspiration included African earth tones, traditional handcrafted details and paisley-inspired motifs.

Bonang kept her accessories in the same colour family. She carried a small beaded clutch decorated with orange fringe and floral details, while gold strappy heels were visible beneath the gown. Gold earrings and a slim bracelet added jewellery without introducing another strong colour.

Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, with the length falling down her back. The makeup featured defined brows, black winged liner, full lashes and a nude lip, keeping the beauty look relatively simple against the detailed gown.

The look also fits Bonang’s established relationship with Nigerian designers. At the 2024 Miss South Africa finale, she wore five looks created by Nigeria-based designers, including Veekee James, SOMO, Sheye Oladejo, Mazelle Bridal and Emagine by Bukola. Her latest Emagine by Bukola gown continues that connection, this time pairing the couture finish she often brings to major hosting appearances with layers of orange fringe and intricate African-inspired beadwork.

Siyanda Bani opted for an all-white outfit for the Fenty event, pairing a cropped lace jacket with wide-leg trousers for a tailored take on neutral dressing.

Siya wore a fitted, long-sleeved lace jacket with a high collar and rows of gold-tone buttons down the front. The floral lace gave the jacket its main texture, while its cropped cut exposed a small section of her midriff above the trousers.

She paired it with high-waisted white trousers cut with a wide leg and a floor-skimming hem. The trousers were loose through the leg, with the volume giving the fitted jacket a clear contrast.

Bani kept the accessories within the same neutral colour family. She carried a small cream handbag with a short handle and gold hardware, while pointed-toe shoes were partly concealed beneath the long trousers. A fine necklace added a small jewellery detail, while her oversized dark sunglasses provided the strongest contrast against the white outfit.

Her beauty look followed the same clean approach. Bani wore her long dark hair loose in waves, parted near the centre and falling over her shoulders. Her makeup included defined eyes, shaped brows and a nude-brown lip, keeping the focus on her face and the outfit’s details.

The look also fits comfortably within Bani’s wider approach to fashion. She was named GLAMOUR South Africa’s Best Personal Style winner in 2025, with the publication noting the way her wardrobe brings together different textures, cultures and eras.

That variety has remained visible in her more recent appearances. In August 2026, Bani was featured in a sky-blue ruffled dress styled with gold stiletto heels, a matching bag and sunglasses. Her latest Fenty look takes a different route, stripping the colour back to white while relying on lace, tailoring, oversized trousers and carefully chosen accessories to give the outfit its character.

Bonang Matheba steps out in a strapless silver gown, with red flowers, a sweeping train and a cocktail glass-shaped handbag adding contrast to the look.

The gown by Ambaosa has a fitted, floor-length shape covered in dense silver beadwork. Long strands of beading extend down the dress, particularly towards the hem. The strapless neckline leaves the shoulders bare, while the intricate detailing runs across the bodice and down the length of the gown.

Red flowers are arranged across the bodice and along one side of the dress,with green leaves placed between them. The floral detailing continues towards the hip, where it meets a full red tulle train. The train extends well beyond the gown and spreads across the floor.

Bonang carries the red into her accessories with a small cocktail glass-shaped handbag covered in glittering embellishment and finished with a chain handle. She wears large, round embellished earrings, while the open neckline is left without a necklace. Her shoes are mostly hidden beneath the floor-length gown and train.

Her hair is styled in a neat side-parted updo, with a side-swept wave across her forehead. Her makeup includes defined eyes, full lashes and a strong red lip. Her long red manicure also picks up the colour of the flowers, train and handbag.

The look also recalls Bonang’s preference for fitted, embellished gowns and dramatic trains. While hosting Miss South Africa in 2018, she wore a red Fouad Sarkis Couture gown with a substantial train. At Miss South Africa 2019, she opted for a fitted silver Gert-Johan Coetzee gown covered in diamond embellishment.

Here, Ambaosa places silver at the centre of the look and uses red through the floral detailing, tulle train, handbag, lipstick and manicure. The result brings together two strong colours in a way that suits Bonang’s red-carpet wardrobe.
