How to Style Loafers and Still Look Chic
Loafers have earned their place as a true wardrobe essential. They’re comfortable, timeless, and effortlessly adaptable, whether you’re running errands, heading to the office, or dressing up for an evening out. What makes loafers so appealing is how easily they transition between casual and posh looks with the right styling.
They first appeared in the 1930s as slip-on shoes for men and were quickly adopted for their ease and sharp design. By the 1950s and 60s, women started wearing them too, finding them practical but still stylish. In later decades, loafers became part of preppy dressing, linked to school uniforms and Ivy League style. Today, they’ve moved far beyond that image. Modern loafers come in everything from classic leather to block soles and playful designs, making them a fashion go-to that works for all ages.
They bring class without stiffness and ease without losing chic. They have just enough formality to dress up an outfit but are relaxed enough for everyday wear. That flexibility makes them easy to style across seasons and occasions.
Here Are Some Ways to Style Loafers:
With Tailored Pants

Pairing loafers with tailored trousers is an easy way to achieve a sharp look. It works well for the office or any setting that calls for smart casual dressing. A tucked-in shirt or blouse adds polish, while cropped pants let the shoes show fully. This look is simple but always effective.
With Dresses and Skirts

Loafers balance out softer pieces like midi dresses, pleated skirts, or even slip dresses. The mix of structured footwear with flowy clothing creates an outfit that feels neat. Add socks for a playful touch or keep it bare for a cleaner look.
With Denim

Jeans and loafers are a classic combination. Straight-leg or cropped jeans allow the shoes to stand out, while wide-leg denim can give a more laid-back look. Pair with a t-shirt for an everyday outfit or add a blazer for a smarter edge. This pairing has been seen on countless street style looks because it’s easy and timeless.
With Oversized Blazers

An oversized blazer styled with loafers creates a modern, put-together look. It works for casual hangouts, coffee runs, or even creative office settings. You can keep it minimal with neutral tones or add a bold colored blazer for impact.
With Shorts

When styled with tailored shorts, loafers can work perfectly for warmer months. The combination keeps the outfit relaxed but chic. Add a button-up shirt or lightweight knit for balance.
Celebrities and fashion influencers have helped bring loafers back into the spotlight. Many have been spotted pairing them with everything from denim to mini skirts, showing how the shoe adapts to different aesthetics with ease.
Loafers are also easy to transition through the seasons. In spring and summer, wear them with bare ankles, dresses, or shorts. In colder months, style them with tights, socks, or even layered with knits and coats. A pair of loafers can move through the year without ever feeling out of place.
They also come in different styles to fit personal taste. Choosing the right pair depends on your wardrobe, but loafers remain reliable, stylish, and easy to wear.

Nomzamo Mbatha Stuns in Black Feather-Accented Coat-Dress
Nomzamo Mbatha has once again captured attention with her latest Instagram post, captioned “Emotions of the sun,” where she stuns in a black coat-dress accented with delicate white feathers. The photos immediately sparked conversation around her style, with many noting how she can turn one outfit into a moment without pushing for attention.

She wore a long black coat-dress dotted with soft white feather accents that gave the outfit a textured, hand-worked feel. The cut was relaxed but held its shape, with a sharp neckline that outlined her shoulders in a clean, structured way. A front slit gave the outfit a bit of ease, while the bold collar carved out a strong outline that didn’t overwhelm the rest of the look. She paired the dress with a small gold clutch shaped like a rounded disc and solid white earrings that matched the tone of the detailing. Her hair, swept to one side with a smooth finish, kept her face open and grounded the styling.

The feather detailing was the standout, placed lightly, shifting as she moved and adding depth to the black fabric, giving the entire look a dynamic touch. Her makeup followed the same measured approach: defined eyes, warm tones on her skin, and a soft lip shade that supported the overall mood of the outfit.
What tied everything together was the calm assurance she carries into her fashion choices. She picks pieces with character, then wears them with a natural ease that feels true to her. This appearance reinforces what her followers already recognise: when she steps out, attention comes her way all on its own.

Mihlali Ndamase Shows How It’s Done in Suits
Mihlali Ndamase has never hesitated to put her own twist on classic tailoring, and this suit moment proves exactly why. She appeared in a look that felt intentional, even without a specific event to mark the occasion, as if she expected the cameras to notice her regardless, and she commanded attention effortlessly.

Mihlali N – Instagram
The outfit centers on a black pinstripe suit, but Mihlali wears it in a way that avoids the stiffness often associated with tailored pieces. The blazer is slightly oversized, giving the ensemble space to move, while the trousers fall neatly without dragging. A white button-up shirt, relaxed at the hem, keeps the outfit from feeling overly formal and lets the sharp lines of the pinstripes stand out.

Mihlali N – Instagram
A loosely knotted black-and-white striped tie introduces a subtle playful rhythm, keeping the suit from leaning into corporate territory. Her glasses contribute personality without overwhelming the look, and her soft, voluminous hair offsets the suit’s structure, creating a sense of movement that brings the outfit to life.

What makes the look compelling is the balance between precision and ease. Every element feels intentional yet natural. The tailoring gives presence, the relaxed touches add attitude, and the details, including the glasses, tie, and pinstripes, transform the outfit into a modern interpretation of suiting rather than conventional office wear. Mihlali wears the pieces as if they belong in her wardrobe, treating tailoring as personal style rather than a costume.
