Good Fortune Official Movie Trailer

Published

on

The official trailer for Good Fortune, Aziz Ansari’s feature directorial debut, is out now. Set to hit theatres on October 17, 2025, the film will premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. The movie shows Keanu Reeves playing a bumbling guardian angel, and Aziz Ansari as a struggling gig worker. With Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh rounding out the cast, the trailer is filled with real emotion and surprising social insights. Here is what I took from the trailer of this film.

Plot

Gabriel (Reeves) is a well-meaning but unskilled angel whose duty is to take care of trivial cases—like stopping people from texting while driving. One day, he meets Arj (Ansari), a down‑on‑his‑luck gig worker sleeping in his car after losing his job. Gabriel decides to swap Arj’s life with that of Jeff (Seth Rogen), a wealthy tech investor Arj once worked for. Gabriel hopes Arj will learn that money doesn’t solve everything. But Arj ends up happier in wealth, refuses to swap back, and Gabriel loses his wings, forced to live as a human. Soon Gabriel and Jeff are roommates, and the angel’s plans begin to tip sideways.

Themes

There are several themes in this trailer. The first one is about Class and economic inequality. Arj and Jeff come from very different worlds, and swapping places exposes the value and limits of wealth. The trailer also talks about the gig economy and worker dignity. It sheds light on the struggles of gig workers—like delivery drivers—who live on uncertain income and unstable jobs. You will also find information about redemption and personal transformation. Gabriel’s journey to fix his mistake becomes as much about finding his own humanity as helping others. His loss of wings is literal and symbolic of that fall and growth.

Cast and Characters

Here are some of the lead characters in the trailer and how they performed:

Gabriel (Keanu Reeves): A “budget” guardian angel—small wings, big ambition, flawed execution. His awkward delivery and stiffness emphasize his inexperience on Earth.

Arj (Aziz Ansari): A lost gig worker facing eviction and hopelessness. Through the swap, he gains a chance to take control, though he ultimately resists going back.

Jeff (Seth Rogen): The rich tech bro used to excess. Sweeping in on the body swap, he experiences life upside‑down and plays a role in Gabriel’s crisis.

Elena (Keke Palmer): Arj’s friend at the hardware store. She fights for union rights and workers’ dignity, acting as the film’s moral compass.

Martha (Sandra Oh): Gabriel’s divine supervisor who strips him of his wings for interfering in human lives.

Visuals and Style

The trailer mixes warm, sunlit settings of Los Angeles with awesome fantasy touches. The tiny angel wings worn by Reeves evoke comic silliness. Dance sessions in Jeff’s mansion channel wild,  and visually rich moments. The setting includes fanciful retreats, union protests, and night‑time cityscapes. Overall, it blends grounded L.A realism with playful fantasy.

Conclusion

In simple terms, Good Fortune looks like a warm, funny, and grounded comedy with a fantasy twist. Through a body‑swap between a struggling worker and a rich tech bro, the story explores deeper truths about money, class, and identity. The actors are charming, and the visualisation balances comedy with real city lifestyle. If the trailer is a tip of what the full movie is about, it is worth the hype.

‘By Any Means’ Review: A Tense Crime Thriller Built on a True Story

Published

on

Photo: Just Jared

By Any Means takes a dark chapter of American history and makes it into a crime thriller. Set against the violence and racial tensions of 1966 Mississippi, the film follows an FBI investigation into the murders of civil rights leaders. It does not present Mississippi as just a backdrop. It makes the setting part of the story.

Plot

The story is about a young Black FBI agent sent to Mississippi to investigate a series of murders connected to the civil rights movement. When he arrived, he landed in an uncomfortable position. He represents an institution that many Black communities have little reason to trust. He has to work in an environment that is unfamiliar.

By Any Means builds tension around the obstacles facing the investigators. Information is difficult to obtain, loyalties are uncertain and the threat of violence is real.

A Thriller With Something to Say

What makes By Any Means good is the way its social themes are built into the thriller. The film explores racism, institutional distrust and the struggle for justice, but these ideas influence the characters and the investigation.

The main character has to navigate several conflicting identities. His position as a Black agent allows him to connect to the people affected by the violence.

That tension gives the film much of its emotional weight. It also prevents the protagonist from becoming a standard crime thriller hero who simply arrives, solves the case and leaves.

Cast

Mark Wahlberg plays Gregory Scarpa, the Mafia hitman who becomes an unlikely ally. He underwent a major physical transformation for the role.

Giancarlo Esposito plays civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer, while Nicole Beharie, Josh Lucas, LisaGay Hamilton, LaChanze, Ethan Embry and David Strathairn appear in important roles.

Production and Visual Style

The production uses the period setting to create an uneasy atmosphere. The locations, costumes and cinematography help establish a Mississippi where danger feels close even when nothing violent is happening.

This is not a movie for viewers looking for a fast, action-packed mystery. It is for audiences interested in crime dramas that combine suspense with a difficult chapter of American history.
