Beyonce Wins First Emmy Award for ‘Beyonce Bowl’

Beyoncé is now halfway to EGOT glory. After more than three decades in the spotlight, she has finally secured her first Emmy award, a win that secures her position beyond music. Known for owning both the stage and the charts, this trophy was more than overdue. When the news broke, fans held their breath, knowing this wasn’t just another win. It was a milestone, proof that her art and vision belong among the most celebrated in the world.

How History Was Made

On December 25, 2024,  Beyoncé turned a  normal NFL show into a cultural event. In the “Beyoncé Bowl,” a streaming special on Netflix, she blended her Western style with the rich traditions of Black Southern heritage, turning the performance into both a celebration and a statement, showing live performances from her Cowboy Carter album at Houston’s NRG Stadium. With Post Malone, Shaboozey, and even her daughter Blue Ivy joining her, the show drew in a record-breaking 27 million viewers and became one of Netflix’s most-viewed sports specials ever.

Beyoncé and the Team Take the Emmy Costumes for Variety Award 

At the 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Beyoncé and her team were honored with the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming. This was a juried category—given by experts in the costume craft. Stylist Shiona Turini joined Beyoncé in celebrating the victory, along with assistants Erica Rice, Molly Peters, costume supervisor Chelsea Staebell, and head of workroom Timothy White.

Fans Joyous as Award was announced 

On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), many fans celebrated her. Pop base expressed joy that Beyoncé has finally won an Emmy Award. Another fan Liisa believes Beyoncé winning the award is a good thing as the world finally recognizes how amazing she is. She also expects more laurels for her in the future.

The positive comments show how much they are excited that their idol won an Emmy Award.

What’s Next for Beyonce in the Coming Months? 

The excitement doesn’t stop at costumes. She is now a contender in two more Emmy categories: Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Variety Special. In an intriguing twist, she’s up against her husband Jay-Z who was nominated as the executive producer of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show for the Variety Special award.

Wale Davis and Akinola Davis Jr. Take Home BAFTA for Their Debut Film “My Father’s Shadow”

Wale Davis Jr. and Akinola Davis Jr. have won the Outstanding British Debut by a Writer, Director or Producer at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. for their feature film, My Father’s Shadow. The brothers received the award at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 22 February 2026.

The award recognises new filmmaking talent in British cinema. Akinola was the director while Wale co-wrote the screenplay. Although both have worked on creative projects before, this is their first featured-length film as a director.

During his BAFTA acceptance speech, Akinola Davies Jr. said:

To the economic migrant, the conflict migrant, those under occupation, dictatorship, persecution and those experiencing genocide, you matter and your stories matter more than ever. Your dreams are an act of resistance. To those watching at home, archive your loved ones, archive your stories yesterday, today and forever.”

Wale Davies dedicated the award to their late father, whose influence shaped their creative paths.

My Father’s Shadow is set in Lagos during Nigeria’s 1993 presidential election.The film explores family bonds, and the complexity of fatherhood.

The production was filmed on location in Lagos and in Ibadan. The language choice of the movie was English, Yoruba, and Pidgin, capturing the speech setting of urban areas in Nigeria.

Before its BAFTA success, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention for the Caméra d’Or. This award honours first feature films. Its selection is good for Nigerian storytelling on an international platform.

“Davies captures the time period perfectly, and My Father’s Shadow balances expressionistic flourishes with the raw human emotion that goes hand in hand with being raised by a distant, difficult to understand parent.”

“While Nigeria is so integral to My Father’s Shadow, this is a movie with a universal appeal.”

The film later became the United Kingdom’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards. The project also earned nominations and recognition from the British Independent Film Awards and the Gotham Awards.
