Tips for Soothing Dryness and Flaking in Sensitive Skin
Living with dry and sensitive skin can be annoying, but there are ways to make yourself comfortable. The flaking, tightness and discomfort can negatively affect your confidence. But finding the best skincare routine doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are six simple ways to soothe your dry skin.
Wash Gently
The way you clean your face makes a big difference. The problem is, many cleansers are either too harsh or just not good enough . Avoid cleansers with harsh agents, or perfumes. While the skin has a natural barrier which protects it, these products can damage it.
Your best option is using a creamy and soap-free cleanser. Clean your face with lukewarm water, and avoid hot water. Gently apply the cleanser, rinse and clean with a dry and soft towel. Don’t be harsh, it can cause bruises to your skin.
Keep Your Body Hydrated
Dry skin needs moisture to keep it in good condition. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water can help keep your skin healthy.
After washing your face, apply serum or essence. They will help pull water into your skin. Shop for products with hyaluronic acid as they work better. Then, apply your regular moisturizer to keep the water in.
Use Quality Moisturizer
While there are many top moisturizers out there, only a rich moisturizer can soften your skin and prevent water from escaping. If you have sensitive or flaky skin, choose moisturizers with shea butter, squalane and colloidal oatmeal. Avoid buying those with dyes, as they cause skin irritation.
Thicker creams or balms are preferable than lotions, especially during cold weather. Moisturizers are best applied every morning and night for the best results.

If Possible Add a Protective Layer
Sometimes, even a good moisturizer is inadequate. When such a situation arises, heavier products called occlusives can suffice. They form a protective barrier on your skin, preventing moisture loss and helping your skin repair itself.
Common body products like petroleum jelly or mineral oil can also be used. They might feel heavy, but they work perfectly. They don’t have to be used every time— just apply a thin layer on very dry or flaky areas every night.
Take Caution With Exfoliating
Some people exfoliate to remove dry skin, but this can be a problem. Scrubs with rough particles can cause more problems on your skin. Strong chemical exfoliants can also be known to cause redness and irritation.
If you want to remove flaky skin gently, use a washcloth. While cleansing, choose a mild exfoliant. Taking enough water will reduce flaking on its own, so heavy exfoliation is not needed.
Bottom Line
Caring for dry and sensitive skin doesn’t need to be complicated. By washing your skin gently, staying hydrated and choosing the right moisturizer, you will have good skin. Also be cautious with exfoliation, as it comes with some challenges. With good care, patience and perseverance your skin will become smooth, calm, and healthy over time.
