50 Cent’s Life Story Comes to Hulu in a New Docuseries

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s life has been marked by multiple public controversies that have drawn industry attention. From surviving violence in Queens to building a multimedia empire, his life story has been widely mythologized. That journey is the focus of a new three part Hulu docuseries which aims to present the most detailed account of his rise.

Hulu launched the project after what was described as a competitive bidding war among major streaming platforms. It will be directed by Mandon Lovett and produced by 50 Cent. On his X page, he tweeted,

The series will cover his transition from Curtis Jackson, a young man from South Jamaica, Queens, into one of hip hop’s most successful figures.

The docuseries explore key moments in his career, including the 2000 shooting in which Jackson survived multiple gunshot wounds. The project will examine how survival, trauma, and street credibility are central to rise in the music industry. This series will revisit the explosive early 2000s era when his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ made him into a dominant force in hip hop.

In the last couple of years, he built  G Unit Film, producing titles such as, Freelancers (2012), Fire with Fire (2012), The Frozen Ground (2013) and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025). The Hulu project is being produced alongside The Intellectual Property Corporation, with Jackson serving as executive producer.

On April 1, 50 Cent teased about a huge Hulu deal on social media which was initially met with skepticism. Days later, the deal turned out to be real, showing his ability to combine marketing with humor.

As executive producer of the Power franchise and several documentary projects like Sean Combs: The Reckoning, he has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. This Hulu collaboration shows the growing interest of streaming platforms’ for popular artists. The series will explore the business decisions that transformed him into an entrepreneur and entertainer.

Hulu explores hip hop’s evolution, using one of its controversial personalities. It traces his role within hip hop, focusing on his influence as a high-profile figure in the genre. The project documents his transition from rapper to a successful entrepreneur in a competitive entertainment industry.
